Originally known as Coal Valley, Montgomery was incorporated April 1, 1891 and named Montgomery for James C. Montgomery, one of the city's first settlers.


Where Are We

Montgomery is Located on the border of Southeastern Kanawha, and Northwestern Fayette Counties along the upper Kanawha River; geographically located at 38° 10′ 48″ N, 81° 19′ 36″ W, approximately 28 miles from Charleston, approximately 25 miles from Fayetteville, and approximately 43 miles from Beckley.
